It would be great
if you could flick a switch and turn your creativity on. Unfortunately
creativity can be an illusive thing, the more you try to be creative the more
it can elude you. It is not something that can be forced. But there are ways
you can encourage yourself to be creative. It is far more difficult to tap into
your creativity when you are tired or stressed. Your pool of creativity is
found in your subconscious mind and a link to a higher mind. Your subconscious
mind is more accessible when you are relaxed. Some of the greatest inventions
have been discovered while the inventor was doing something else, like
strolling on the beach.
Opening up to your creativity enhances your life in
many ways. It allows you to:
The right side of
your brain is generally thought to be the more creative side. The left side is
for logical thought, mathematics and speech. The right side is the allow us to
see patterns and the whole picture and helps us be creative. Most of us have
been brought to think that the left brain functions are more important than the
right brain functions. The left brain functions are far more dominant in our
society. This often leaves us struggling when we want to be creative.
One side of the
brain is usually dominant to the other. Those naturally creative types have a
more dominant right brain. You can enhance your intelligence and creativity by
having both sides of the brain switched on and functioning, though one side
will usually remain dominant.
The left side of
the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain
controls the left side of the body. Doing things with your left hand or doing
creative things like painting will help switch on your right brain.
An exercise
called cross-crawling will help switch on both sides. To cross-crawl you simply
need to march on the spot , but bring your right hand across to touch your left
knee, when you bring your left leg up and your left hand to your right knee
when you bring your right leg up.
The right brain
is like anything else, the more you use it the easier it is to use. So try to
do something creative a few times a week.
If you need a
solution to a problem or are having an artistic block, go for a walk, visit a
friend, take a bath or take a snooze. Do something fun and relaxing. Request
that your subconscious work on the problem and come up with a solution. Then
let it go and forget it. You will know when the work is done because you will
get the "Ah ha! So that is how I can do it" feeling.
Other
methods are going for a walk in nature and let nature give you the answer. If
you are observant and open you will most likely receive your answer. (Watch the
movie "The power of One" to see this method in action.) Or you can
pick a book at random from your bookshelf and flick it open at any page. The
information on that page may be just what you need.
The most
important thing is to keep your mind quiet so you can hear messages from your
subconscious when they arise.
There are three
chakras that are involved with creativity, the sacral chakra, the throat chakra
and the brow chakra. Working with these three chakras can help you tap into
your creativity more readily.
